2. ALL classes have an average of 3-15 students.

3. Tuition for classes other than Chinese classes were based on certain minimum class sizes, which vary among courses. If low enrollment occurs before 8/15/2017, the school will discuss options with the teachers and families, for example, whether to cancel the class or increase the tuition proportionally, as agreed by parents and teachers.

4. Tuition Refund Policy

  • 100% refund if withdrawn before the end of the 1st class.
  • 80% refund if withdrawn before the end of the 2nd class.
  • 50% refund if withdrawn before the end of the 3rd class.
  • Registration fee is non-refundable.

After the first semester, upon request, BCS will refund the tuition for the second semester (50% of school year tuition) when npredictable changes of family condition happen (including but not limited to relocation).

5. No switching of classes after the 3rd class without approval from the principal.

Teacher: Zhantao Lin

Mr. Lin is an advanced Tai Chi teacher who learned Yang Style Tai Chi from 5th generation masters. He has been teaching Tai Chi in last 20 years and has been practicing Tai Chi for four decades. Masters have passed on Chi technique to only a few of their students. Mr. Lin is one of them. Since Tai Chi is all based on Chi control, Mr. Lin also teaches Chi control to most of his students when they reach a certain level.
In this class, Mr. Lin will teach adult students the traditional Yang Style of Tai Chi (88) as shown in this video below.

ChineseMusical Erhu iconErhu (二胡) (Age 6 and above)
Teacher: Zhantao Lin

Erhu is a kind of violin (fiddle) with an exception that it has only two strings. The Erhu instrument belongs to the "huqin" family together with zhonghu, gaohu, sihu, etc. At beginning, student will learn bow control, left/right hand posture, finger work and basic tunes with traditional Chinese musics. As students make progress, more techniques will be adding in, such as left hand shift, tremolo, vibrato and much more. We offer both group and private lessons. Successful students may join Boston Erhu Ensemble to perform broadly in the New England area.

Mr. Lin is a professional musician and music educator from China. Mr. Lin was an associate professor at the Guangxi Arts Institute and the board member of Chinese professional Erhu player's guild in China. Mr. Lin had won many competitions and was recognized in the Who's Who of Chinese Education. Since he came to the US, Mr. Lin has been performing broadly in the New England Area including Sanders Theater at Harvard University, MIT, Boston University, Museum of Fine Arts, Peabody Essex Museum, Children's Museum, the Boston Public Library, the Lincoln Center in New York, and recently at a concert given by the Alcyon Chamber Ensemble. He has also participated at Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project exchange program.

Teacher: Haozong Lin
Haozong Lin teacher has studied under the Li Shouan, He Lei and other famous Lingnan painter. He was the vice president of Guangzhou South Snow Painting and Calligraphy Association, chairman of North American painter association. After moving to the United States, Boston, by studying Western painting, he integrated Chinese and Western art. His work focuses on landscape painting mainly flower and bird painting. He has repeatedly held exhibitions in North America and the mainland. Lin has many years of teaching experience, on Chinese brush painting class. This course mainly teaches small bird and small animal paintings.

About Soprano Zhuge Zeng:
Soprano Zhu Ge Zeng is a native of Hunan Province, China. She pursued voice and operatic studies at Wilfred Laurier University in Canada for two years and presently resides in Boston, Massachusetts. Awards she has won include: Best Singer Nominee for Dora Mavor in 2001; First Place Winner of London Choral Guild, Young Artist Competition, Canada, 2000; First Place Winner of Peel Musical Festival 1993.
Ms. Zeng sang the title role of the world premiere of “Iron Road” by Chan Ka Nin, in Toranto in April of 2001. Ms. Zeng’s other operatic credits include the roles of Gretel in Hansel und Gretel, Venus in Lully’s Thesee, Mazzatt in Pruves Smith’s Le Chien de Watteau, Iris in Hoiby’s The Tempest, and the Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflote. She also appeared in the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio Presentation of Sartorio’s Giulio Casare in Egitto.
She excels in the coloratura and lyric operatic repertory, in roles such as Zerbinetta, Olympia, Oscar, Morgana, and Adele. She brings her performing a natural and compelling stage presence as well.

Teacher: Chu Ling
Chu Ling has worked as a performer and advocate in the arts for over 40 plus years in many capacities: dancer, choreographer, producer, arts administrator, fundraiser, and teacher. She founded Chu Ling Dance Academy in 1998, an organization of multi-age performance groups whose primary focus was the creation and performance of dance.
Ms. Chu is a graduate of the Beijing Dance Academy, Beijing China. She came to the United States in 1996. She has worked as a Choreographer in Seattle, New York and Boston where she has resided since 1998. Ms. Chu, since 2000, has been teaching Chinese dance at the Boston Ballet School and the first to ever do so. She also frequently gives workshops at Wellesley College, Boston University and Harvard University.
Chu Ling continues to be the premier choreographer of dance in the Boston Area. Her choreography has been presented on stage and in numerous festivals. She is the recipient of numerous awards in China, Japan and the United States. In 2002 Ms. Chu received an “Artist/Humanist Fellowship" from the Boston Cultural Council.

Coach: Xiaoyi Chen
Xiaoyi Chen grew up in China. She graduated from Beijing Sport University Wushu College; she is an International Wushu Championship and has won more than 40 gold medals in international competitions. She is a certified China Class 1 Wushu Judge、and Class 1 Fitness Coach. Harvard Wushu team and Wellesley college Wushu team coach. Wushu strengthens the body, improves flexibility, coordination, toughens the mind and energizes the spirit. In this class, she will teach students: Wushu taolu、 self-defense, light saber, weapons such as sword, nun chucks and so on.

Teacher: Yujuan Yuan

Math SAT II is for students who finished advanced algebra II in school (roughly grade 6 above). This class helps students to look at mathematic problems in different aspect of views and develop effective approaches to the solutions. The course primarily focuses on the fundamentals and skills in mathematics learning and problem solving, and emphasizing on learning mathematics effectively. The course content may include but not limited to number and operation, algebra and geometry and measurements.

Introduction on the Teacher:
Mrs. Yujuan Yun was born in China with BS in Physics Education and MS in Physics. She attended the Boston Teacher Residency program and the University of Massachusetts Boston at the same time in July of 2007. She graduated from the program and got Master of Education from the University of Massachusetts Boston in 2008. She hold a professional teaching license in Mathematics (8-12), an initial teaching license in Physics (8-12), an initial teaching license in Moderate Disabilities (5-12), and an initial teaching license in Foreign Language (Mandarin).

She has taught Math and Physics at middle school, high school, and college levels before moving to US. She also worked as a secondary math and physics teacher’s trainer in Beijing Institute of Education for 6 years. After immigrating to the US, her passion of teaching keeps growing. After she took computer-training courses, passed 11 Oracle Database tests, got an Oracle 8 Database administrator and developer certificate, she joined the Boston Teacher Residency program in 2007 and became a BPS high school math/physics teacher. She taught in Charlestown High School as a math teacher then joined Boston Adult Technical Academy. She has been enjoying working with our diverse student population, supportive colleagues, and school administrators to empower our students of diverse backgrounds to achieve their full intellectual and social potential by combining the best of the East-high standards, discipline and character education with the best of the West-a commitment to individualism, creativity and diversity. She has been a long-term math teacher in Newton Chinese Language School.

Course Description:
Math K, the first level of Singapore Mathematics, is designed for kids of age 5-6, who are in kindergarten or 1st grade. The concepts of number 0 - 100, basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, length and weight, etc will be taught, with various teaching methods including vivid cartoons and brainstorm games applied in this course. We encourage active thinking, communication of mathematical ideas and problem solving. This helps to develop the foundation for the study of mathematics in the future.

Teacher introduction:
Lijia Li, a Second Prize winner in National Olympic Math Competition of High School Students in China, obtained her B.S from Zhejiang University and M.S of Biology from Uppsala University in Sweden. She used to teach math and science in Shanghai High School International Division, one of China's best international schools, and was very popular among the students. Since she moved to Boston in Sep. 2016, Ms. Li has passed Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) math subject with excellent score, and now works as a Per Diem Translator for Public schools of Brookline (PSB). With deep passion in education, Ms. Li has rich experience in teaching and efficient communication with students. She believes that a good teacher can not only teach students knowledge and skills toward outstanding academic achievement, but also bring positive attitude and everlasting impact to a happy & meaningful life.

Born in China, YouEn Li graduated from Shanghai Theater Academy. He had taught painting and costume design in Shanghai Theater Academy for eight years before he received his Master in Fine Art (MFA) degree in Boston University in 1986 with full scholarship and teaching assistantship.
As a resident in Boston, he has also worked with Boston Ballet, Huntington Theater and Chicago CCCTV Station. His art album, titled as "The Clothes and Adornments of all the Nationalities in China", was published in Hong Kong and China. It led to two Clothes and Adornments exhibitions in Hong Kong and in Tokyo. His painting was selected by American and China Art Association as one of the greatest contemporary paintings from China to join "Beyond Open Door - Contemporary paintings from People's Republic of China" exhibition in Pacific Asian Museum at Pasadena, California in 1986, which was the first Chinese Art Show in US. His artwork has exhibition in Chicago, New York, and Boston. Currently Youen Li teaches kids traditional Chinese fine arts including Sketch, gouache and oil painting as well as adult sketching.

Go (Wei Qi) is one of the simplest games in the world because there are only two basic rules. “If you are old enough to know you shouldn’t eat the pieces, you are old enough to learn to play.” Therefore, almost anyone can play and enjoy it immediately. The rules of Go are so simple, yet it is complicated to play. It is the supreme challenge for artificial intelligence studies now. Deep Blue has beaten the chess grandmaster Gary Kasparov, but no computer can beat mid-level beginners in Go so far. A typical saying is “Go is a game that is easy to learn but hard to master”.
Ke Lu: AGA 4 dan. Ranked 15 (best in US team) at 4th Iwamoto Tournament in 2007. Won 3 titles in OGS turn-based server. He has won first prize in division A of New York Go Open competition in 2008. He was ranked 29 in 2009 North American Ing Masters and ranked 15 in 2011 Strong Players Open. He also won open section of 2012 ACGA Spring Go Open. Master Lu has over 10 years of teaching experience of teaching children GO game in Newton Chinese School.

Teacher: Lawyer Times
Lawyer Times is the 2017 Massachusetts State Chess Champion. A national life chess master who has won over 200 United States chess federation tournaments both locally and nationally. He has over 20 years of experience teaching students of all ages.
He will implement his Master PhD chess program at the Brookline Chinese school. Children ages 5 and up will learn in a fun but serious environment the key fundamentals they need to learn to master chess.
He will also teach core abilities that foster not only skill on the chessboard but in life. Chess has been proven to improve critical thinking abilities that enable them to make better decisions on and off the chessboard.

Violin Beginner group lesson: Offered to children ages 5 and up.

Teacher: Lijiong Liao
Students will learn basic violin position, learning notes, and also practice in tune, play with steady ryhthm, and play solos. Group games demonstrate creative ways to practice basic skills. Lijiong Liao has performed and taught in both the United States of America and the People's Republic of China. Ms. Liao got many awards of violin competitions. She is the violin winner of the competition founded by Boston Symphony Orchestra in Tanglewood Festival , and she played with Boston Symphony Orchestra after the competition. Besides, she was awarded the second prize of BostonYouth competition of all instrument in 2003. Also, she had been a member of the New World Symphony Orchestra in 2004. Ms.Liao studied with Mr. Leopold Lafosse in Iowa University 2001. On May 2001, She awards the first prize of the all instrument competition of Iowa University.
Ms.Liao won twice first Prize of Boston University Bach competition both are in 2005 and 2003, during her study at Boston University. Ms. Liao holds her both master degree and Performance degree with full scholarship from Boston Unversity, where she studied with Mrs. Dana Mazurkevich who is the one of the best student of master violinist David Oistrakh. Ms.Liao 's students have been playing in New England Concservatory Youth Orchestra, and Bosotn University Youth Orchestra.

Teacher: Minghua Chen
Minghua Chen, came from Hangzhou, Zhejiang. She graduated from Harvard University. She is the founder of Harvard Alumni Peking Opera Troupe. She grew up in a family of senior Peking Opera amateur. She loves Peking Opera when she was a child. Then she was recommended by her family to study Peking Opera from a famous Peking Opera actor who was the apprentice of Jun Qiu Zhang, a famous Peking Opera artist.
After studying at USA, she has been good at utilizing modern media to compare and study first class Peking Opera artists' performances. Then she incorporates the different kind styles of performance and forms her own style of Peking Opera performance.
She has performed at Harvard University, MIT, Suffolk University, Northeastern University and many community parties, New Year parties and large celebration ceremonies. She has performed the leading ladies of many different Peking Opera scripts, including but not limited to consort queen (Yu Ji) in 《Farewell My Concubine》,the fairy in 《Scattering Flowers from the Heaven》,Su San in 《Yu Tang Chun》,consort queen (Yang Yu Huang) in 《Tai Zhen Wai Zhuan》and 《Da Tang Gui Fei 》,the white lady in 《the White Snake Lady》,Princess Tie Jing in 《the Fourth Son Visits His Mother》,Mu Gui Ying in 《General Mu Gui Ying 》. She has been appraised by many audiences from different communities as professional performance alike。

Zhengmin Li, Zhengmin is passionate about K-12 science education and has been teaching computer science workshops for students in weekends and summer since 2015. She also leads a Youth Entrepreneurship Service (YES) program, an introduction to entrepreneurship for Boston area high school students, with training and experiential learning sessions on weekends and a final business plan competition since 2014. She holds PhD in Chemical Engineering and has extensive research experience in computer simulation in chemical engineering and material science.

Creative Computing Workshop for 4-6 grades
Who should take this course? Students in 4th-6th Grades who:

This workshop is designed for beginners without or with very few programming experience. Students will explore important computational thinking concepts such as sequence, loops, parallelism, events, conditionals, operators, and data through Scratch, a block programming language. Examples of hands-on activities include designing animated characters and music videos, and group projects to create stories. Students will learn computer science knowledge and practice programming skills while exploring their creativity, imagination, and interest in computer technology and shifting from passive consumers into active creators.

This workshop will adopt game-based and project-based learning. The course format consists of lectures, discussions, hands-on activities, and student presentations. Students need to bring their own laptops (fully charged) and headphones to the workshop.

CS & Science Workshop connects computer science to science and introduces computer science practices and concepts to middle school students within the context of life, physical, and earth sciences. Students will learn computer modeling and simulation as a tool to deeply explore STEM concepts. This workshop will prepare students to pursue computer science during high school.

Students will develop their computational thinking in STEM skills including:
